How to define Lexmark R as paradox printer

I am helping a friend who has a server set up in her small office. She has 2 printers, a Lexmark Optra R and an old dot matrix. Her goal is to be able to get rid of the dot matrix, and be able to print to the Lexmark, using the server. When she hooked up the Lexmark to the server, there were problems printing from Paradox. If her computer is computer1, both printers are connected to computer2. Therefore when computer1 prints, it sends the data to computer2 and computer2 does the printing. Computer2's printer settings show that there are 2 printers defined: the Lexmark and the "Paradox printer". So, she is able to print to the Lexmark (though not through the server), but the dot matrix has to be connected to the computer she is printing from. So... How do I change the printer settings in Paradox to print to the Lexmark and any idea why the dot matrix has to be hooked up even though it is not being printed to? Thanks!! :)

TKNY,

Paradox/DOS or Paradox for Windows? Which version?

The program is Paradox/DOS and I just found out it's version 1.0! So I know an upgrade should be done. Any ideas how to go from 1.0 - 8 or 9 or 10? The program was written in '93. Also, it was written by a friend of her boss - someone they are not in contact with anymore. Do you know where she could find somebody to hire as "tech support" for her Paradox program? I'm trying to help her myself, but it may require more time and expertise than I have. Thanks so much!

TKNY,

Yikes. That predates even Borland's association with Paradox.

You won't be able to go directly from v1.0 of the DOS product to the latest (or any, for that matter) version of the Windows product. Borland changed the way Paradox worked when porting it to Windows and you're essentially loooking at a ground up rewrite.

You *might* be able to upgrade it to Paradox/DOS 4.5, but there aren't that many copies around at this point, since Borland stopped producing it in 1994.

You might consider contacting Steve Green at Diamond Software Group ( I think he might be able to provide the sort of advice you're looking for.

Hope this helps...

Upgrading to a Windows version would be the logical step if possible. If you have the full version of Paradox v1, you may be able to export the tables to ascii, then import them into newer table structures. Of course, the application will have to be re-written, but the data should be preservable. The .sc files should be able to reveal much about the program flow and any specialized processing, and they can be read with any word processor (unless they were encrypted - I don't even know if that was an option back then). Mac :)
