I'm looking at an ACS R8 processor but it has not been defaulted and probably has an unknown admin password in it.

How can I reset this back to factory default and remove any admin password?

The processor has no password for programming. Remove the batteries, remove any PCMCIA backup cards, power-cycle the unit, and it will be default. If you have a PCMCIA backup/restore card, insert that, set automatic backup ON to the PC card in #123, set the time to 1:58am, (the date should still be defaulted to Jan 1), wait until the clock says 2:02am, then do a manual backup to the PC card in #124.

Thank you For the explanation and instructions TTT.

I want to be sure I know what the backup steps are for, so:
Is the first step intended to write over any backup that may be stored inside the system's memory with the default settings?
And is the second step intended to default any backup that exists in the PCMCIA card?

I've got one more question I hope you can answer: How does automatic system restore work after a power fail? (for instance, will I be able to abort it so an erased system doesn't restore itself?)

Thanks

Yup, powering up with the batteries and card out, there's nothing to restore from. backing up the blank config overwrites whatever XYZ Co. had programmed in there before you got it. After you program the system, back it up so your real programming is what gets restored.
