Hi all, I've a problem with some logs in the file: /var/adm/messages:

Jul 19 12:10:49 sf15k2a inetd[802]: [ID 317013 daemon.notice] bpcd[26326] from 192.168.100.254 920
Jul 19 12:10:51 sf15k2a inetd[802]: [ID 317013 daemon.notice] bpcd[26360] from 192.168.100.254 915
Jul 19 12:10:52 sf15k2a inetd[802]: [ID 317013 daemon.notice] bpcd[26387] from 192.168.100.254 662
Jul 19 12:10:53 sf15k2a inetd[802]: [ID 317013 daemon.notice] bpcd[26431] from 192.168.100.254 907
Jul 19 12:10:54 sf15k2a inetd[802]: [ID 317013

a line every second !!!

It's possible to deactivate the message for this daemon (only for bpcd)?? and how?

I know but the problem if is possible to deactivate the daemon.notice only for one daemon (bpcd) not for all.

no, not with syslog. Try to find out if you can change verbosity level of bpcd

Best Regards, Franz

Hi pruanju,

bpcd, is that a daemon from Symantec (Veritas) Netbackup?

Regards.

Mike

Hi Mike042, bpcd is a NetBackup client daemon. Enables NetBackup clients and servers to accept requests from NetBackup servers. The problem is that this program hasn't any option to run on "silence" mode.

Regards.

Hi pruanju,

We have NetBackup v4.5 & v5.1 & v6.0 running on different Sun systems as a 'Master' and as a 'Client' and have not seen those entries in /var/adm/messages . On our systems the daemon does not run all the time. Has NetBackup been installed and configured properly? Do the bpcd entries in /etc/services and /etc/inetd.conf match the manual? Have you created the directory /usr/openv/netbackup/logs/bpcd to get daily logfiles from bpcd?

Regards.

Mike

Hello Mike042, in our systems the daemon doesn't run all the time too. NB is installed and configured properly, we make all days backups without proble, but the messages are like a fly and the logs are created.

Hmm, I have Netbackup installed as well. I also get those messages non-stop, but I think they are actually coming from the inetd daemon. You could remove that entry from the inetd.conf and probably create a startup script that says:

/usr/openv/netbackup/bin/bpcd -standalone

The -standalone tells it to continually run in the background w/out using the inetd daemon.

Hi coffeysm, I've made the changes and now everything is working fine without the messages.

thanks !!!!
