How to create a TCP/IP printer port in Win 98? I can do this no problem in Windows 2000.

Cheers

Nope cannot do this cause I am using this as a work around for the main issue at hand: -

Do a search on this thread
"Computers are missing in Network Neighborhood"
thread55-406188 the topic:-

Server is Windows 2000 Server
Clients are Windows 98 SE
I am able to map network resources from the server to the client and browse shared folders that are resident on the server.
However, I am unable to browse the network through "Network Neighborhood". A message similar to the following appears:-

"Unable to browse Network. Network is inaccessible"

Please help !!!

Several tools are available as shareware which will allow you to create an lpr printer port in Win98.

WinLPR would probably be the easiest to find, but it's not the easiest to use - License is $25 Get it Here:
ACITS is much easier to use, but it will be harder to locate. You can get it here: and a single license runs $79

Some printer manufacturers offer free lpr utilities for their devices, but they are usually only available via their service technicians or system analysts.

There are probably others that I am not aware of, but give one of the above a try and see how it works out for you.

TechInNeed - My network has win98se to win2k server configuration as well, and in the past when i've run into this error, I've reloaded all networking components on the client.

(on win9x machine) Get rid of everything in networking, including the NIC, and then hit safe mode and look for ghost NIC's. Get rid of any ghosts NIC's in device manager.

Reboot and reload the NIC, and all networking protocols. Usually this solved that 'unable to browse' error on the win9x machines.

It would seem logical that until you get that fixed, getting a network printer going might be a excersize in extreme frustration :p~ Maybe try the printer manufacturer's website for any drivers/wizards for win9x systems.
