I am using an Octel Aria 250 w/ software v 3.11

I am trying to create a voice mail box that my users can use to transfer callers directly in the mailbox of a subscriber. As an example, my secretary (if I had one) could transfer an outside caller directly to my Octel mailbox to leave me a voicemail.

I have a Definity G3si PBX - I assume that I need to create a station that rolls into Octel. What sort of Octel mailbox I need to create I do not know.

You can create an extension that goes right to a type 33 mailbox. When transferring the caller, you call the mailbox and dial the mailbox number and complete the transfer. A few seconds after the mailbox number was dialed, the system will then play the appropriate greeting and have the caller leave a message.

You can also do this through the PBX. For example, on the Definity you can add the button goto-cover. When you press this button during a transfer, the system stops ringing the extension and goes straight to coverage.

Thanks for the reply. I wonder if I should use a type 31 mailbox instead of the 33? I don't want to actually ring the persons extension just have the caller get straight through to the Octel mailbox.

What I've done is to creat a station on my G3si that has a coverage path which goes to Octel after 1 ring. I created the type 33 voicemail box, created a greeting and setup the caller menu keys (1 to auto attendant 2 to operator).

This works. Good stuff - thank you again.

Can you tell me if the dif between type 31, 32 and 33 mailboxes?

Type 31 mailbox is caller menu only. Basically you have the 1-9 options that can be programmed to route to an extension or mailbox.

Type 32 mailbox is like type 31 plus extensions. In other words, you can program 1-9 plus the caller can dial an extension. When an extension is dialed, the caller is transferred to that specific extension on the PBX.

Type 33 mailbox is like type 31 plus mailbox. In other words, when you can program 1-9 plus the caller can dial a mailbox number. When a mailbox number is dialed, the caller is routed directly to the mailbox greeting (not transferred to the PBX extension).

This is why you should use type 33. as it will go straight to their mailbox. Type 31 you are limited to just 9 mailboxes. Our company refers to the type 33 as "Express Messaging". They caller is prompted for the mailbox number of the person they wish to leave a message for.

Hope that helps.

You could also have an xport staion with your mailbox number in the name field and it would cover to Octel and go right to your mailbox
