How to Create a running total in a group header

Hi,

I am using Crystal 11. I am trying to create a running total for a group of records and I am not successful. I can create the running total in the detail section but when I try it for the group, it does not work. Can someone please help me with the correct formula to create a running total for a group that will be placed in the group header.

Running totals allow you to do clever things with grouping and formulas. They also accumulate for each line, hence the name. The disadvantage is that they are working out at the same time as the Crystal report formats the line. You cannot test for their values until after the details have been printed. You can show them in the group footer but not the group header, where they will be zero if you are resetting them for each group.

If you're not making a selection, you might get the same result with a summary total. Right-click on a field and choose Insert to get a choice of Running Total or Summary.

You can not put Running Totals in Headers, you can only use Summaries.

RTs will only display in Footers.

You need to explain more specifically what you are trying to summarize, and provide some sample data so we can see what you're trying to do. You can probably use a variable to do your summary, but without more info it would be hard to say for sure.

I actually fixed my problem. I placed the running totday in the group footer that way I was able to get the total for the groups.
