How to create 2 flyers to a single 8.5xx11" page? 1

I would like to create TWO flyers on a standard printed 8-1/2x11 inch page.

One basic vertical orientation flyer but two copies of it across a landscape page.

So, I'd end up with two 5.75 x 8.5 inch flyers (one standard full size page cut in half.

Is there an easy way to do this in publisher?

Sorry, I'm a complete beginner in this software.

You choose your paper size in Page Set Up then when you go to print you should get "print options" somewhere there which gives you the option to put two on one page.

If you've done it in half size (A5 in Australia, which is half of Quarto or whatever you call it in imperial)then you can simply put two on one page.

If you've done a full size page you can also "select all" "group" then rezise the object so you can fit two on one page...which is kind of the same as reducing on the photocopier so to speak.

You'll find margin guides under "Arrange" "margins" or something like that.

So that's 3 different ways. If it's just B & W, you can just reduce on photocopier and put two on one page...

If you are laying up flyers then Publisher is absolutely the best program for this type of work.
Firstly set the page up in File > Page Set-up select the paper type and orientation to landscape ( 'Letter Landscape' in Pub 2007 ). Then in the Arrange menu select Layout Guides to divide up the page.
On the Grid guides tab select 2 columns. Then under the Margin Guides tab set the margin for the top, bottom and sides to what ever you prefer it to be to suit the flyer design ( and your printer ) You should set these to the edge of the printable area of the page so that anything that you place with-in the borders you know will print. Lets say you choose a half inch or 13mm margin then to have this same margin in the middle of the page you need to set the spacing between columns in the Margin guides tab to double the margin to allow for the same margin on each flyer.
The blue layout guides on the page don't print out and you can toggle them on and off with Control + Shift + O or by checking or un-checking Boundaries & Guides in the View Menu.

For layout visibility I usually create a rectangle with a dashed white line around the guidelines. To have this automatically lock into position go to Arrange > Snap > and check "To Guides" and when you re-size it it should snap to the guidelines.
Now working in one side only create your text and graphics in the box and use the arrow keys to nudge selected elements exactly to the right position. Once you have the flyer as you want it then marquee all the elements by clicking outside the top corner and dragging diagonally to the bottom ( or control + A ) to select all including the border rectangle. Click the Group Objects button that appears or Arrange > Group. Right click the group and in the drop down menu select Copy. Right click again in clear space and select Paste. Click on the new group and hold the mouse down to maneuver near the next set of guides on the other side of the page and it will snap into place. Remember, the broken white line makes it really easy to see when it is in place and they wont print.

If you want crop guides then set the Margin Guide column spacing to zero to put the mid line in the middle of the page. Hold the shift key while drawing a short thin line, ( 0.25 or 0.5 pt ), to make it perfectly vertical - colour it light grey and snap it to the bottom edge of the centre line. Right click > copy and paste another one to the top edge of the page. These will print as your cut guides.

That's the basics of how to do what you are wanting to do quickly and easily. If you get stuck on anything come back and ask.

Thank you SO MUCH for the detailed answer. I love MS Publisher but for some reason some 'simple' things which should be obvious to me as a new user are not at all so obvious. Your explanations make perfect sense to me, and I now understand. Thanks again!

You have some good answers, but I would look at the size reduction of each flyer when printed side by side. You will lose some height as each flyer is scaled for the width. I would create the flyer in a 5.75x8.5 format and then copy it to the other side of a standrad 8.5x11 page in landscape layout. This way you get to use the full height of your half sheet.
