I have alot of FD copybooks that need to be converted
so that I can find the actual starting and ending positions
of all the individual fields. Has anyone written a cobol
program to do this or know of a utility?. I am working
with SCO unix and Microfocus COBOL. Doing this by hand
is a REAL pain.

Hi,

There is a free utility to do this. It is called COBFD.EXE and can be found on Compuserve for example, but I guess it is on more download sites. I have it here, but not in the original state like I downloaded it.

If you use the metacrawler to search on COBFD you find several sites, also:

COBFD.ZIP - NetBiz Internet Services FTP

Click on the file name to download this file. COBFD.ZIP 05-06-1997 59K. Cobol FD analyser. Time to download at 28800bps = 0.36 mins If you have...
1000, (AltaVista)

I hope this is helpful :)

Thank you Crox
I used metacrawler and searched for cobfd (cobfd.exe found
nothing) and was rewarded. The 3rd listed result, Software
Download was VERY helpful. When I went to that web page, the fifth listed download, COBOL FD Analyzer, was exactly what I needed and easy to use. The website u listed was still there but the download page itself was no longer available.

Thank you again - u saved me alot of headaches - u are my hero and a true GURU - lol
