How can I connect to a oracle Db over the 'net.

in the client tnsnames
I will have host as the ip address of where the oracle is: 24.29.151.129
port as 1521 as default.

but in the server tnslistner file, the host is the servername "dellserver",

so two host name won't match, that is my confusion.

anyone know how to connect to oracle remotely?

Thanks

Hi! As long as you put the ip-address of the server in your client's tnsnames.ora it will do an automatic lookup and connect to the server. You don't have to put the name of the server, the ip-address alone is sufficient.

Hi,

I have created an instance using the command:-

ORADIM -NEW -SID spike -INTPWD manager -STARTMODE manual -PFILE d:\oracle\admin\spike\initspike.ora

Which has created a service on NT services however I am unable to connect to it using internal/manager or system/manager in SQL*PLUS.

Can you help?

Thanks

Ash
