How to configure private lines

I'm trying to figure out how to configure a private line on an MICS with v.5 software. I'm close, but not quite there and can't find any info. I think I set prime to the line I want to ring. Then, set it to appear and ring at the extension and put the line into a public pool (I want my secretary to be able to answer my calls for me). But, my receptionist still gets all the calls.

I know I must be missing a step. Can someone walk me through or send me a link with step-by-step instructions?
Thanks!

Rick,
Is there a driving need for a private line? Would it suite your purpose to make the line public BUT appear and ring at your secretary's desk and appear or appear and ring at your desk? ... making sure that the line doesn't appear at receptions desk... are these lines regular loop start or DIDs ... ??

A public line that only rings at my desk and my assistants is what I'm looking to do. I know to set the line to public because of this. Appear and ring at her desk and only appear on mine. The line points to my extension as the prime set. However, incoming calls to this number are ringing at the receptionist during the day and by AA at night - it's not ringing through. The line is not part of any pool or hunt group. In one case where it does ring correctly, the unanswered calls go into my assistants voice mail and not mine.

Program the line to appr only on your set only. Go under Terminals&Sets and pull up your assistants extensions. Then go to Answer DNs and assign your phone as an answer DN button on their phones. This will assign a button to their phones. Whenever a call comes into your phone it will ring this button on their phones. Then make sure your phone forwards to vmail BEFORE their phones forward to vmail. MRoberts

You're close. You need to change the "private" line to "unassigned" for the recectionist phone. This will take care of it ringing to her during the day. For the night problem you need to go into "ringing service" under "services" and build a ringing group that has no exts. assigned. Then go into "night" under services and change "extra dial" to "none" and under "line settings" for the private line change the group to the one you just built. Also go into (F983) "AA", "lines", and change Ans. or AA to "N". This will make it only ring the phones you want 24/7. The problem with the call going into the correct mailbox Can be resolved by setting the "DRT delay" in "feature settings" under "system programming" to a lower # of rings than your assistants call forward no answer timer. The call will come in and ring your assistants, if no answer drt to your phone, if no answer go into your voicemail. You may want to lower your call forward no answer timer so the caller isnt ringing forever before going into your mailbox. The easiest solution would be to have your line ring your phone instead.

Hope this helps.
I can type this step for step if you provide the ext. #'s and the line in question.

Better yet. Instead of the drt pain in the butt, you can build a hunt group. Take the private line off of both phones. Go into "hunt groups" under system programming. Assign your's and your assistants exts. to the group, having yours "appear only". Set the "overflow" to be your ext. # with a delay of "15". Assign the private line # under "line assignment" in that hunt group. You may still want to lower your no answer timer.

Hunt group calls will not forward to voicemail but an overflow call is not considered a hunt group call so if you set up as kclear suggests you would not HAVE to change your forward no answer timer since the secretary's phone will not forward a hunt group call to the secretary's mailbox. JerryReeve

You guys are all great! I can't believe how helpful you are. I got there - it's actually ringing where it's supposed to be ringing. However, if no one answers, it rings forever. It's not going to my voice mail even though I am set to forward no answer to my voice mail system. What's the last step?

Ricky,

Does the call move from the hunt group button down to your intercom button after x# of rings?

Gremlins. Now it works fine. For the last two days, VM simply would not answer. It would ring indefinitely. Now, VM picks up after 4 rings. Go figure.
