Good day,

I am working on getting an ascii console attached to a Nortel Passport 6440. I have not done this previously so I was wondering if someone could help? I need to know what port to connect to (CP Console versus Oper ports on back), what type of cable I need (DB9 straight through?) and if I need to enable the port in the Passport configuration?

Thanks in advance to anyone who can help.

Rich

Hi Rich

First off, you will need a DB9 straight and go in on 9600 baud rate 8-0-1

When you connect you will be prompted with a login

If the equipment is virgin just type gobbledygook and press enter and same with the password.

once you are logged on, you will need to issue the command "start provisioning" or start prov

If this is a factory default Passport, you can also run "start up" which will prompt you to configure the Passport for Management conectivity.
I hope this helps

Mankyway,

Thanks for the response. Which physical port should I be connecting to? The CP I have has one port on the card and then there are the Oper0 and Oper4 ports on the back of the chassis.

Thanks again.

Scrub that Last answer, I apologise( I must get my models remembered), anyway you connect to oper0 if the CFP1 is in Slot 0 and oper4 if the CP is in slot 4.

Regards

HI,

I also have one 6440 that I want to connect to through serial port, but there is no response on my terminal console port following the above instructions. I am using XP's terminal console. Any clue?
