How To Configure a directory on the Phone Display 1

I was told with digital phones you can set up a name directory in the switch so you can find a person's extension right off of your phone display. This would be an ENORMOUS help to us since we are a resort who gets heavy traffic to our operator. Can anyone provide me with instructions on how to configure this or a link. Thank you ever so much!

If you want to search a different way, i.e. Internal List and External list, the idea is to insert a special caracter in front of Lastname :
*Smith,John,1234567890,CompanyXYZ
Smith,John,6666,MyCompany

You can then search for external numbers with * and first letters.
You may imagine another search way...
