Hey guys...

I'm trying to get Samba 2 working on my SGI Origin200 server so that I can access the files on my other SGI hardware, as well as my PCs. I don't appear to be able to log into the thing from the PCs at all. I can see the server in the workgroup, but no matter what username/password I use, it always denies access.

The PCs are running XP SP2 if that makes any difference. I'm thinking of trying Samba 3 TBH, but I don't have a working net connection on the server yet so I can't download it (just not configured properly)

Thanks a lot guys

Maybe post the smb.conf file.
Is the server acting as a domain controller?

"If you always do what you've always done, you will always be where you've always been."

No, not a domain controller.

I've tried setting up a user on both the PC and the server called samba with no password, and then again with the password samba1, but neither worked

smb.conf:

The fact that your getting prompted for a username/password is good... Samba is working :)
Did you add a Samba user?
ie. using smbpasswd -a johnd
User johnd must also be a Unix user.

If you have and you are having this issue, try:
update encrypted = Yes
