We have a Windows 2000 TS with 25 TS CALs. There are only 20 users and some users receive the "Your terminal services temporary client license will expire in 3 days". We want to know what will happen to those user after 3 days.

The TS license manager shows all 25 license have been issued to 25 devices. Can we purge or remove the devices that we think they don't need the TS license? If yes, how?

Unfortunately you can not. Once a device has been issued a license, you need to wait for it to expire which can be a VERY long time.

Microsoft will issue you a new license for free (they know this was a bad way to manage this).

Your other choice is to remove the license server and set it back up. All clients will then get a new license.

The answer to your question though is that the users will not be able to log on when their temp license expires.

I hope you find this post helpful.

Thank you for the links.

I can think two options.

1. Remove the TS License and re-install it.

2. Delete HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\MSLicensing\Store\LICENSE00x on the TS client registry so that the computer can access using temporary license.

Which one is better or any other suggestions?

Why not just call Microsoft and get the free extra license? No workarounds or temp license needed.

I hope you find this post helpful.
