How would I check to see if a FILE is already open?

Some tips on asking questions. Don't worry about your question being too long. Yeah, that happens, but too short is more likely.

Try to think in terms of what you tell somebody who you went to ask about this in person. You'd provide the situation ("I'm trying to do thus and so and running into this issue.") as well as what you've tried, and where you're stuck.

After you've written the question, read it back and ask yourself whether you'd know what the real question was after reading the message, if someone else wrote it.
