On my laptop, under display properties->settings, all of the resolutions are 4x3 aspect ratios.

If I hook up a widescreen monitor to my computer, how do I set the resolution to a widescreen aspect ratio?

I have already tried hooking up a 16x9 digital projector to the vga port, which I was hoping would appear to look like a widescreen monitor to windows, but still all resolutions are 4x3 ratios.

This may be resolved by installing newer VGA drivers.
Hopfully these newer drivers will provide "modern" widesrceen resolution options.

When you say new VGA drivers, are you talking about drivers for the MONITOR or the GRAPHICS ADAPTOR?
thanks!

I'm talking about the built in graphics card/adapter in the laptop.
You will be able to download these from your laptop manufacturers website OR if you can determine the chipset used on the motherboard? ie: SIS, Intel, ATI etc then go direct to the chipset manufacturers website for the very latest available.

Odds are your laptops ext vga does not support widescreen 16:9. Will probably stretch a 4:3 image.

I have a radion 9250 and I have an older wide screen compaq monitor (1997) the screen is streched.

I tried to download an updated driver from the ATI-AMD site but I got a message that the download was prohibited.

If I find someone with the right driver will that fix my problem?

I have never seen a worse tech support site.

by worse tech-support site i mean ATI-AMD not this forum.

just wanted to be clear
