I have a bcm 400 and we have changed the the first digit of a 4-digit extension from a 8 to a 3 on all the phones.
I'd like to change the voicemail system's leading digit from an 8 to a 3. How do I do this and are there any negative side effects to doing so?

Thanks!

In most cases I treat a change like that as a new install and just start from scratch.

Building the dial plan is one of the first things I do in building a system and going back after the fact and making changes to it always bugs me.

In any case a lot more info would be needed to make the call but I usually look at a change to the dial plan as a big change with lots of possible repercussions.

You can keep everything(table, ccr's etc) and delete all mailboxes(one at a time) and recreate them with the new starting digit.
You do a re-install if you go from 3 to 4 digits and then have to rebuild from zero, but that's not your case,

If I am changing every extension in the system I usually do a re-install. But I am very particular in how I want a system programmed, and I am usually coming in after someone else.

So I'm a little confused. When I look at each set, on the properties page, we have the voicemail number in the 'fwd no answer' field. Currently that number is 8100. I'd like to change it to 3100. So what your telling me is that I can't change it without removing and reinstalling the voicemail system?

The FWD number doesen't matter what number it is but to change the mailboxes if there are not alot of them just delete them one by one and make new ones with the new numbers or do a reinstall this defaults the VM to factory and reprogram from the begining. There is no way to just change one number in the MB.
After reinstall do a feature 985 to see what the VM dn is this will be the new FWD no answer number.
