How to change the Avaya IP Phone 1606 PROCPSWD 27238 1

Hi, everyone

May I know is there a way to change the Avaya IP Phone 1606 PROCPSWD? Currently, it set as "27238". This will only used when you have issue on rebooting the IP Phone and unable to connect to the server. You required to login to the phone using this PROCPSWD... Thank you.

If the phone boots it will load a file named "46xxsettings.txt".
In there you can change the password by editing the line "## SET PROCPSWD 572958"
Remove the "##" and change the value "572958" to another value or "" for no password at all.
Then store the changed file on the fileserver in the root folder, for the embedded SD card the root folder is "\SYSTEM\PRIMARY

The reason to change is I am afraid of being hack. May I know is it possible for hacker to hack the phone and forward IDD call out the Avaya IP Office? if he can get access to the extension...

May I know the password change is it done at the IP Office Manager? or the IP Phone. Currently, my IP Office Manager is running on Linux...

A hacker will not be able to hack the phone and forward IDD via the PROCPSWD.

Thank you for your advise...May I know is it possible for the hacker to scan IP Address, ports and extension ID? Then cracked the passcode of the extension ID and do a unconditional forward to make a IDD Calls?
And there even do not need to access into the IP Office Manager to configure the unconditional forward to make a IDD Calls.

It's good to be paranoid but don't overdo it.

I assume all your phones are on a private network, so if a hacker already gotten inside your network you have other problems than the unlikely case that he did all that work to forward a phone.
For those who wanna toll fraud there are enough IP Offices with public IP and default password out there.

The phones themselves don't hold the forwarding settings, the system does. Even if they did there is no way to connect to them directly to make any changes. You need to worry about the system not the handsets, if the system is not accessible from the web and is behind your firewalls then it's as secure as your network is.

Thank you for your advise. May I know the Avaya One-X Mobile Preferred Apps for Android phone? Is it secure to used for calling back to our office to connect to our Avaya IP Office to call out... Especially, when we make calls using the Apps connect back to our office to save costs. Or is there newer Avaya One-X Mobile Preferred Apps incorporated with VPN to make the connection more secure..

Or what is the best practice to setup the Avaya One-X Mobile Preferred Apps to be used for calling from overseas back to office.

If are integrating mobile phones you should be using a SBCE.
