Hi, I am on a Nortel Norstar/BCM Phone System T7316E. Currently, our office is configured so that everyone dials out from our main office line ending in 4200. However, I also have a direct line ending in 4248, i.e. (555) 555-4248.

Our administrator does not know much about how to manage this system. How can I get them to change the settings so that I no longer display xxx-xxx-4200 to people I call each day?

I don't want people returning my call to the receptionist, but rather seeing my direct number xxx-xxx-4248 each time I call, and returning the call directly to my desk. That means I want my actual direct line to be projected toward people that I call.

Any help you guys can give would be Awesome!

Thanks, Ima

Thanks. I'll try that. Anyone know the step-by-step directions on how to do that? What Feature code do I press, etc.? Is this something I have to have our administrator do for me (as I don't know a user and password) or can I do it on my own here at my desk?

Lastly, this won't affect everyone else on our system will it? Everyone else in the office is still needing to project the receptionists' line.

Thanks.

You can do this unique to each phone/DID. Your administrator will need to complete this request. Not something you do from your phone. Have them log in, go to Telephony > Sets > Active Sets. Tab is "Line Access". Select your extension and then the "Properties" tab. "Pub. OLI" is the first field in the lower half of the window. Hope this helps.

Bingo.. We got it to work. I went to the administrator and found out that BCM means she interfaces with our phone system through some sort of Windows-based software application rather than by just punching through Feature menus on the phone set at her desk.

She went in and found my line underneath Active Sets and Line Access and then we were stuck momentarily as we pondered, "What is the difference between 'public OLI' and 'Private OLI'?", both of which were set to 4862, which we found strange because when I dial out it was reading on someone's phone as xxx-xxx-4200. Still don't know where that 4862 number came from, but, anyway, we tinkered around with it and eventually found that just putting 4248 (my actual direct line) into both Public & Private OLI didn't solve the problem either.

We then tried entering my entire # under Public OLI, xxx-xxx-4248, and that solved the problem. We actually meant to change both the Public & Private OLI to the same thing, xxx-xxx-4248, but the system wouldn't allow that full number into the Private OLI field. So we just left it entered into the one and Voila! it worked.

Thanks for the help. I documented what went on so someone else might benefit from the same issue perhaps. Thank you guys for telling me where to go and what features to change!
