well when adding them via the robot inventory you can use the Update Options tab. Just after doing the preview vol config Go into the tab and change Volume pool to Scratch then go back to Robot Inv and perform vol config. Then all the new volumes will go into the scratch pool. But that is for the future now you have to go into the NetBackup pool via the media/vol pools/ select all the new volumes and right click and take Change from the menu, you can then have a chance to change the volume pool to what ever you like. Click okay and all will be right in the world.
in administration console , right-click on catalog, and select configure netbackup catalog backup...,in the dialog, you can configure the volume to be used for catalog backup.
sorry I miss understood the question. You need to right click on the Catalog twig in the main menu on the left window. You know the one with Reports,Policies,Storage units, etc... From the short list of options select 'Configure NetBackup Catalog Backup'. You can then select two tapes to be used for your catalog backups. Make sure they are clean unused tapes. The pool is not important as it will move the tape into the NetBackup pool for you. It is very important that you note the numbers of the tapes some place, as when you need to do a recover you have to know the numbers but will have no way of finding it out. You have options when to run the DB backup I use After each session as the best option. You need to set up the list of files to backup as well, I think you get the ones from the master as default but you do need to add the DB from the Media servers. Hope that helps come back if not.
Yes thanks, actually we had a consultant set it up the first time, using tape label 00001 as the catalog tape
so i see that in there.
BUt i think its full,
so i wanted to create another catalog tape w/ label 00002
do i just keep using the same 00001 tape even though its full ?
I see where i can create tape label 00002 though, but thought you can create multiple ones.
sorry
but thanks again
The tape should never get full because each time the backup runs it overwrites from the start. There is never any older version on the tape. However if you have been using the tape for some time it might be good to use a fresh one. But you should use a unused tape. You should be able to create another tape as well so you have two tapes. It's just done by setting another number in the section lower down on the same page. That way you have always got a full back. Once used for the catalog backup tape 00001 is dificalt to use for anything else, so once it's been replaced by 00002 and maybe 00003 eject it and trash.
i had to stop the last job running so i could put the 00001
catalog tape back in and remove the 00002
but it was running a final backup of a remote server
that was taking 14 hours.....
anyway, the catalog backup job failed of course.
is there a way to run an "On demand" catalog job
since i have the 00001 back in there ??
Thanks
also i know you said the catalog shouldnt get full since it overwrites, but i like to take it offsite for a while instead of leaving in the library in case of disaster...
is there a recommendation you can give ?
First yes, if you right click on the Catalog twig then you will get the same old menu up, the next one down from the one you have been using is Backup NetBackup Catalog. Click on that and it will start a backup. You can not run it whilst other backups are running and you can not submit other backups to run whilst it's in action.
Well this is the problem the backup is only as good as the last time it was run. This backup should be run regualy at least once a day. Ours runs after each set of backups, normaly in the early morning. If you had two tapes you could rotate but you can never be 100% sure which one it wants.
