Can anyone tell me how to change the label on the
"Context Sensitive Soft Keys (self-labeled)" on a M3903?

These are the 4 keys below the LCD.

I have read though several 3900 series guides and cannot find this info.

In the guides from Nortel it says "(self-labeled)"

The only instructions I have found are how to"

Change a Feature Key label (M3903 and M3904)
You can change the name on the Programmable Line (DN)/Feature Keys
(self-labeled). These keys are located on both sides of the top portion of the
display area on the M3903 and M3904."

What I would like to do is change the SCC key from
SpcCtrl to something like Speed as that is what a user has asked for...

Thanks!

You cannot change the labels on the soft keys. You user will have to find some way of coping.

Yes you can change the soft key labels!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

hit options
scroll down to "Change feature key label"
hit select
then when it is highlighted on "Change feature key label"
hit select again
now it will ask you to select a feature key label
then it allows you to edit it with the dial key pad likeyou are editing a text message on a cell phone.

You might have to delete what is there first, it doesnt overwrite.

then hit done

I maintain that the soft keys at the bottom of the display cannot have their labels changed.

When you are at the 'Select Feature Key' prompt, the only soft key available is 'Cancel'.

John I tried that and that doesn't work. I can get to where it asks to select a feature key label
but you cannot select the softkeys.

Your instructions are how you would change the "Programmable Line (DN)/Feature Keys".

I was beginning to suspect that maybe you can't change the labels on these...

I think Allen is correct :0

Sorry allenmac I guess I read that wrong, I thought when he posted

Change a Feature Key label (M3903 and M3904)
You can change the name on the Programmable Line (DN)/Feature Keys(self-labeled). These keys are located on both sides of the top portion of the display area on the M3903 and M3904."

I thought he was talking about the buttons on "both sides of the top portion of the display".

Those can easily be changed. I just walked through mine to post the proper procedure

I did my own to post the steps, not sure why it isn't letting you change them. I'm on a release 3 system using a 3904.

NorthernTek,

Don't confuse the soft keys with these ...

Soft-labelled programmable feature keys.

There are four keys under the display that you can program with
features the user needs. The user presses the More key to access more
features. The name of the feature appears above the key, once you
have programmed it.

Key number Feature
16 MWK – Message Waiting
17 TRN – Call Transfer
18 AO3 – Three-party Conference
AO6 – Six-party Conference
19 CFW – Call Forward All Calls
20 RGA – Ring Again
21 PRK – Call Park
22 RNP – Ringing Number Pickup
23 SCU – Speed Call User
SCC – Speed Call Controller
SSU – System Speed Call User
SSC – System Speed Call Controller
24 PRS – Privacy Release
25 CHG – Charge Account
26 CPN – Calling Party Number

NorthernTek,

To be clear, only the twelve keys at the top (0-11) are renamed by the user.

Is there a way to change the key label when building the set? Line 1 is our roll over and it now displays the extension. I need it to read "line 2" so people will not use the number as a call back option. Thanks for any help.

For people that simply have 2 lines and those lines don't appear on secretary sets, you could go with KEY 0 and KEY 1 being the same DN - make them like this:

KEY 0 MCR 1234
KEY 1 MCR 1234

The only disadvantage will be if some secretary had to cover that Extn 1234 to see if it was in use, etc. But if 1234 only appeared on that one phone, MCR is not bad - and it solves your label problem.
