I've asked this question 3 or 4 times and have never received an answer. I can't understand why Publisher does not have a "bring guides to the front" feature like every other program in the world. Is there a way to do this that I have been missing???

Are you talking about View > Boundaries and Guides?

Say what other programs have 'bring guides to the front' and maybe people will understand better.

It seems to me that guides are always at the front in any product I use.

I am talking about dragging a blue ruler guide over on to a publication. Whenever there is anything at all on the page...text, photos or any kind of artwork, boxes, etc the guides are behind everything! It then becomes difficult to line things up or center things. The other programs I am talking about are Pagemaker, Quark, InDesign...in those, one simply clicks on "bring guides (or rules) to the front" and that's it. I've searched high and low in Publisher for this very simple command.

Blue lines are either margin, row or column guides, not ruler guides so it would be appropriate I think for them to be at the back.

Ruler guides are green.

I played around and did find that ruler guides were behind graphics but in front of textboxes.

Sorry I could not be of help.

Hi,

I was just wondering if you had any luck with this. I am also encounting the same problem and cannot find any "quick link".

Thanks

No. I gave up. I was really surprised to get another response from you after so much time has gone by. I am a graphic designer working for years for a local family owned printer and only use Publisher when I am forced to by a client's submission with this worthless program. Actually, they've improved over the years but it is still a primitive program for profession work. It takes hours just to get rip ready files.

In InDesign or Quark it does not matter what is on your page...you can easily bring your blue guides to the front. If you ever crack the secret I would love to hear from you but sadly, I don't think it's in their code.

I know what you mean. I do a similar job to you by the sounds of it. I'm going to try and continue investigating - maybe there's a code I can crack!

I know I use CorelDRAW, Illustrator and it's the same as what you are saying in the fact that your guidelines always stay on top!

I'll keep you updated in how I go

As a last resort you could use a line to do your lining up etc and delete it when finished.

Now there's a good idea! I'm in Pa. Where are you?

Well, I guess I won't be buying you a beer for your trouble!

Why did you send me that link? That was one of my old posts.

Because I answered the same question way back then too...differently, albiet...

This answer was way better. That's what I will do from now on...just create my own "hand-made" rules.

...hmmm....I think the line will get in the way of some things, like text for example.

I already tried it and it works fine....just have to remember to remove it.

And, if you choose "Snap to Objects", things will lock onto the line all perfectly in line...at least in one direction. That's under the "Arrange" menu from memory.
