Hi folks,

how exactly do we boot from an mksysb tape (we need to test whether the backup has been done correctly).

It is important to BOOT from tape, not to restore from tape (there's a file of some sort that's necessary for that, but I'm not sure what it was).

How do we tell the machine (AIX 4.3.3 / 7026 H50) to boot from tape instead from harddisk ?

And most important: How do we switch back to booting from harddisk after testing the tape ?

Thanks in advance !

Regards
Thomas

Hi
You need to change the bootlist to point to tape device
To check what your current bootlist type 'bootlist -om normal' .To change the bootlist type bootlist -m normal rmt#
insert the mksysb tape in device and reboot system.when the system boots up select key 5 for ascii term or F5 for graphics to go into maintenance mode.this will indicate if your mksysb was sucessful.

good luck
