hello everyone ,
I want to migrate some folders which are stored an old disk to new disk and keep existing permission to new disk(Volume) .
But it seems that old permission will be coverd with a property of permission inheritance when I copy folders from volume to volume.
How can I do to retain existing permissions to new copy under the new volume without permission inheritance ?

help me in hurry !

Jacky

I would write a script to set the permissions. There is no other clean way I know of than that. However you have to have programming knowledge to write VBScript or Perl.
Good Luck !

this may help. quoted from
How to manage inherited permissions

By default, Everyone has Full Control for a NTFS folder and the permission is inherited from the root folder on the partition or volume. To block Permissions Inheritance, click to clear the Allow inheritable permissions from parent to propagate to this object check box.

use windows backup to back up the folder. use windows backup to restore the backup of the folder to it's new location. windows backup retains the security settings. does this help?

Thank you all !
I've found a nice way to resolve this issue .
With a software of "Volume Manager " ,I can retain the permission setting and copy quickly by funtion of partition copy .
It is a good tool if you have the same trouble as me .

Best Regards
