Anybody do this? I have blocked numbers before but not names, we get a lot of calls from silly callers like NAP INFO, SUPPORT INT, etc that are robo calls and just beep when you pick up. The CID number changes every time but the name stays the same, so if we could block by name our office could stay much saner, a big need over the holidays! Thanks in advance for any ideas, even clues or half baked ones are welcome!!

In VMPro there is a systemvariable for the callers name, maybe that is usefull to filter the unwanted callers.

If you have SIP trunks, you also should use a SBC.
Block the cal there..

intrigrant that may work, I know there is a "drop" module, I have used that before. Thanks if it works I will come back and let all know. Happy T-Day !! Okkie, this is for our office of just a few people (under 10) I am still recovering from buying the licenses for IPO server ed. just so we can get more used to it!! SBC costs some change too.

you wait until you see the call charges for fraudulent usage

If you are still need to recover from buying 10 licenses, then the charges of fraudulent usage will give you a heart attack.

You als bang a south african pro****ute without a rubber because they are to expensive?

We did get hit once already for someone coming in on our sip trunk while we had an ATT pots line connected also, we did learn a lesson but since we jumped on it right away, eventually we did not have to pay the 10+ K... now our sip trunks are locked down to a couple countries only since most fraud goes to somalia and the like... $50 a minute sometimes... yes scary.

We got server edition to train on, we're a learn by doing kind of company, plus we also need to load up different scenarios as we help out other interconnects remotely. There are subtle differences between 500V2 v SE so its good to feel comfortable with it, and the SIP Trunk setup was a little different too.

Once we're in the office (Holiday at home) will try to drop the calls that come in regularly and post to here. Thanks all!

its not a matter of locking down where the sip trunks can call it is a matter of locking down inbound traffic to your IPO so that Mr Scumbacg & Co cant get into it
if they can access your IPO programming then they can undo any restrictions you may have put in place.

Please tell me that your firewall does not forward traffic to your IPO

The LAN IP is only internal. WAN IP is on a separate outside IP locked down for only the ports needed for voice traffic. No way to get into manager or Sip Trunk programming from outside. The country restrictions are locked down at the sip provider. We monitor the outside ports and sometimes see bad guys hitting on them, but they dont get in. This is possibly turning into a sip security thread... if you want to discuss IPO v Internet v SIP external sip trunks and phones, probably another thread. Big topic and also a hard one to discuss since a lot of customers have other IT companies that need educating on best practices for programming their firewalls for our mutual customers. We try to stress (to customers) that using a private sip trunk with the likes of Time Warner etc is the safest.

That quote alone deserves a star!

No need for a new security thread they have been done to death
