Hi Guys/Gals

I need to back up a embedded voicemail message on a mailbox - I know how to do this for ALL mailboxes voicemails but how do I do it for an individual mailbox message left ?

I want to save as a wav file and probably think using FTP or an application such as filezilla ?

the system is release 8.0

Thanks

Cass

Is this on the embedded VM, or an external platform?

If this is on an embedded 3300 then IIRC you need to purchase the 'Advanced Voicemail' licensing option.

I have set this up in the past to email each user the .WAV file.

This is no way in the system to 'backup' a single mailbox message. As you indicate, if you need it, you can do a system backup and the file will be saved in it along with all the other messages.

There are a dozen different ways to skin this one, it depends on why you'd want to do it and what access you have to the system.

If a user want's it as a .wav file to send to keep for their personal enjoyment, then I'd suggest that they simply play back their message, holding the handset to a mic on their pc and record it using Sound Recorder. Simple, but gets the job done.

Or get Advanced Voicemail as suggested.

There are other more direct options, but I think they dance along privacy issues that you probably would be better off avoiding.

The advanced voicemail license is now free, for the 3300 I believe (possibly just for SMB systems)

Thanks again guys for all your input,
The user needs to record an abusive message left so I'll err on the side of safety.

As I had thought the easiest and simplest is best so I'll go for the local recording.

once again thanks for the prompt input.

If you have Advaced VM, you could set up SMTP forwarding to email, which should then send a .wav file of the message. Not sure how to do this with an existing message, though I would think you should be able to set up a MB just for this purpose and forward the message to it.

You can access individual mailboxes on the 3300 internal voicemail using Filezilla. You just need to find the right directory. It is hidden when you first attach to your 3300 with filezilla. Sorry can't remember the right directory maybe product support can walk you through it.

You can backup VM box over FTP. It has stable location and file name format. So "wget" is a simple yet powerfull console application with can do it by schedule. The only trick is that sound is stored in raw G711U format. I would suggest to use "sox" console application which has mswindows port as well and can convert files from raw to wav. I think format would be "sox -U -b -c 1 <inpitfile> <outputfile>.wav" It is important to add wav extension, so the application will create appropriate headers inside the file.
