i have an extra cdburner that i want to install on my machine. gigabyte 7avx mobo 2 hdds 20gig and 60gig all partioned running xp pro cdrom and dvd player. thinking about adding dvd burner in near future. is it possible to enable all of these on some machine. amd 1800 cpu motherboard has raid capability.

How many IDE devices can your board support?

If only four - you could by a PCI controller card to extend that.

thanls foe answering i have 4 slots two that are unused the board supports ata133 & raid. is it possible for me to do this?

I've not used RAID. Can all four slots be used normally (ie, not in a raid configuration) - because if so, you could run up to 8 IDE devices. But as I say, I've no RAID experience - and I suspect it will also depend on how implemented by your motherboard. Is there anything in its documentation about this? (which board is it)

If you have a gigabyte motherboard with a built in promise raid adapter, the answer is yes....There should be a jumber on the board that will allow you to choose how you would like to use the promise controller,(ata/raid).
I have a gigabyte board with a single WD 160 GB HDD on the promise controller and is my boot drive...Then I have a dvd-rom drive and a cd-rw as master/slave on primary of the on board controller and a dvd/rw drive as the master on the secondary port of the built in controller.
Leaving me the ability to add 4 more drives, I believe your system board is similar.
