How do I automatically forward emails within a time frame?

Example:

department X leaves the office at 5pm and returns the next business day at 8:30.

In the weekend, department X is out of the office

How do I set up the forwarding of email to another department (e.g. department Y working 24x7) WITHOUT user intervention, in other words: it has to be some sort of rule/script/tool which auto-starts and stops.

You don't say which Exchange version you're using, but I use 5.5, and I'm fairly sure it can't be done by the Exchange programs.

Having said that - it is definitely possible to do something with another tool. I'm a Delphi programmer and I know it would be possible to write a service application that during defined time ranges, logs in to one or more mailboxes, and forwards any new messages onto another e-mail address, and then deletes the original. You're very welcome to pop over to the Borland Inprise: Delphi forum if you would like help with that.

The same could be done in VB or C, if they're more to your taste :)

Thanks Griffyn, I guess I'm going to check out the forum :)

By the way we use Exchange 5.5 with Outlook 2000
