Yikes! I think I'm stumped. I'm kinda new to this forum but so far can't find or make sense of an answer I need, so I'll star my first thread!

I have a financial statement in which calculations among subreports are done in the main report. So far this has been simple, using shared variables on grand totals or running totals created in the subreport. But or my Expenses subreport, I have both group totals (for each type of expense) and running totals for a grand total of the expenses (which i can access easily enough).

I need to take, for instance, the group total of salaries and wages (or emp benefits, or supplies, or ...) and divide by units of service (from a subreport, but no problem getting the variable on UOS) in the main report.

Can someone help me?? It'd be GREATLY (stress great) appreciated. I've purchased and read Ken's newest book and a few other sources, but I'm still unclear as to the approach I should take.

Thanks!
Joni

Not sure where your problem lies, you would return the UOS using a shared variable and use it in a formula to do the division against any group totals.

Perhaps there's some unknown complexity here that you're not sharing.

Thanks for replying...

I have UOS in a subreport (detailed), the totals for which i place in shared variables.

I have detailed Expenses in a subreport which has both group totals and grand totals. The grand totals are easily placed in shared variables. Is there a way to place each of the group totals in a shared variable? if so, is that inefficient?

I can compute Total Expenses/UOS in the main report using the shared variables i created in each subreport for those totals. However, because the group totals in the Expenses subreport vary (Salaries, Benefits, Supplies, etc.), I do not know how to compute group totaled Salaries/UOS, Benefits/UOS, etc, in the main report.

Am I missing sometehing terribly obvious?

Thanks
Joni.
