We have a Windows Workstation running on NT4.0 and we are trying to connect to a computer at a customer's jobsite running Windows XP Pro for monitoring control panels. We don't want to use the internet to connect (due to cost) so what is the best way to connect? We have PCanywhere here and have used it for our office computers, but we checked into PCanywhere but the latest version we would have to buy must use the internet. Remote Access also requires the internet. Any suggestions.
Thanks

I haven't heard that the latest version is web only, and I find that hard to believe. You'll need 10.5 or higher to work with XP. Go to EBay if you have to. Install it, and then on the XP pc you'll create a host, which will use your modem as the communications device. You'll set the same on the NT computer, except you'll be creating a remote.

Please always take the time to backup any and all data before performing any actions suggested for ANY problem, regardless of how minor a change it might seem. Also test the backup to make sure it is intact.

After reading your post, I decided to do a little more digging regarding the internet issue and version 11.5 of pcanywhere. I got that information from Symantec's website and also called support for Symantec and talked to someone directly who told me you have to have the internet.
I pulled up the user guide for pcanywhere 11.5 and low and behold, you can use a modem or direct connection.
They need to get their facts straight.
Thanks for the previous info.
