I have been doing research and debating whether to go with IP or digital phones with the Avaya IPO. I will be using a 46XX remotely over VPN but it's yet to be decided in the office internally.

I do not know if this affects the 5xxx series but I have read multiple posts regarding the overall sound quality/volume of the 46XX series on both the handset & speakerphone.

I do not know if it's the nature of IP vs. digital or not, codec, network quality, etc, etc .

Can anyone shed some light on this. I see blurbs on changing the amplification on the tftp file for the phones as well.

I just want the most reliable-sound/voice quality phone to pair up with the IPO.

Generally if you use the G.711 codec and your network conditions are good there should be no issue with the sound quality on the 46xx phones.

But since you gonna connect the phones internally on the office where I assume you have the IPO I would use digital phones since they wont be affected if you have problems on your network and they don´t use up VCM channels unless calling another IP phone in the system.

Also there´s the price to consider, what will be most economical and functional depending on how many phones you have in the office.
