you did not include enough info. 5000s come in various sizes ie; 2-slot, 5-slot, 9-slot. if you really need a price try google. the 5000 is a blocking switch and cisco has or is discontinueing sales, but will continue support 'at a price'. the 5005 and 5009s weigh a ton dual power supplies.

unless you have to meet some need directly relevant to the 5000 - ditch the idea and go with newer technology! the newer stuff is faster and cheaper. fyi chassis type switches cost more by default so if you can go with a fixed port config it will save you lots.

below are different item from written above.

5-slot Catalyst 5000

(2) WS-C5008B AC Power Supplies
(1) Supervisor Engine
(1) WS-X5012 48 Port 10BaseT Ethernet Switching Module Telco
(2) 24 Port 10BaseT Ethernet Switching Modules Telco
(1) 12 Port (RJ-45) Fast Ethernet Switching Modules

what would be the fair price for this?

It would be better to buy a used 4006 and then through in a new supervisor blade into it.

nah...i wouldn't buy anything new. i am not that rich.
everything and anything i listed is used of course.

On the up side the 5000 series was the most reliable thing Cisco has made , more than I can say for their 4000 series switches .

how about 2924XL 24port IOS ver12.0
how much should i pay for used one?
i feel like i need IOS based switch as well.
thanks

lol... You're building a nice retro cisco network. :) This must be for a lab, or an old exam right?

Sort of both.
i am trying for CCNP certification. but still i also realize that those hiring manager from job i seek wants EXPERIENCED subjects.
certification along won't suffice, so I am in a quest to obtain small cisco home lab of routers and switches to play with, so I can at least say "I have experience".

vipergg, what kind of problems have you had with the 4000's? I have 13 of them and other then 1 bad 48 port copper 1000x module haven't had any problems... there all connected via 1000 fiber gbics to my main 6509...
