I am creating an edit page with Microsoft Frontpage that will update a record in an Access 2000 database. When I try to update a modified record I get the following error : Microsoft ODBC Access Driver - Too many fields defined number -2147024882 (0x8007000E).

My questions are (1) Is there a limit on how many columns can go into a table? and (2) Is there a limit on the total number of bytes that can go into an Access Table? or (3) Is there another problem that I may have overlooked?

Thanks!

Ralph

Not sure of the record length limit, but Access97 has a 1Gig limit on the entire database and Access2000 has a 2Gig limit on an entire database. If you need to run a table up to either of these sizes, create a separate database for that table and link your main database to it. That way, your table will have these limits.

Record limit is 2048 bytes not counting memo fields and ole objects. This is Access97. Don't know about 2000.

Access 2000 has a 255 column limit for its tables. I believe the record limit is now 4096 bytes because of the switch to Unicode, a two-byte character set.

Thanks a bunch for the help. I am now getting an error that says I am performing an operation on more than 255 fields in an Access table. Now that error message sounds straightforward enough. The only problem is that I counted up only 145 fields defined in the table that I am working with. Am I misunderstanding the definition of fields in Access2000?

Thanks!

What is the size of the record. Perhaps it generates the same message for any overized record, either too many bytes or too many fields.

I modified my Access database to now it has 140 fields and a total of 1815 bytes. I believe it is well within the numbers that can be handled by Access.
