Howdy!

I'm working on building CCIS between 2 sites, and I know that there are 24 channels. I thought, okay, 24 licenses will be needed on each end. But the reseller I am speaking to, who has spoken to NEC, said that we don't need that many licenses. I suppose that makes sense, since we wont be having 24 concurrent conversations over CCIS; maybe 10 max. But is it true that I don't need to license for all ports if they wont all be used? Would I be safe with 10 licenses, on each PBX, if I never exceed 10 channels?

Thank you

The number of licenses determines how many simultaneous calls you can have. How many extensions will be at the distant site? Will they have their own trunks? The answers to those questions may help you determine how many licenses you need.

Thanks for the info belevedere. Both sites have 5 SIP trunks, which is overkill for them. They want to leverage CCIS so they can extension dial between the 2. I don't see them exceeding 5 simultaneous paths, so I figured that 10 licensees would be fine. However, I have always ordered the full 24 licenses for previous customers and was unaware I could only partially license my card due to usage. With that said, it sounds like this is very doable. Am I understanding correctly?

We are going regular CCIS as we are unable to provide a stable internet connection that will support IP CCIS (or netlink). The only way we got our SIP trunks to work is by ordering them directly from the ISP, who brought in their own services and guarantee what NEC requires for happy SIP trunk connectivity. So we are limited to only going traditional CCIS instead of IP-CCIS.

OK, so you will need the licenses, a PRI card, maybe some more port licenses, a circuit between sites and a bunch of programming. Oh, and I'd go with different number plans between sites. We usually go with 1100/1200/1300, etc.

I am aware that I'll need 2 CCTA cards between the 2 sites. I also have the programming set, already, in anticipation. The point to point circuit is on order. My question is primarily around the quantity of licenses needed for regular CCIS if we do not plan to go above 10 concurrent calls over the CCIS. Am I okay to just license for 10 channels on a 24 port card?

You should be OK with those numbers. If it winds up being short down the road, you can always add more.
