We are looking at an Avaya MM solution for 2000 users with Exchange integration, I have 2 designs which contradict each other, so looking for a little guidance.

We have 2 main sites with Exchange servers (Total of 4 Exchange servers 2 clusters) how many Avaya MAS servers should I be using.

That depends on many of things. Are you going to be using one Voice mail system or will you use 2?

Are all of the 2000 users in 2 locations or spread out?

If you are going to be using one system then it comes down to port capacity and network latency.

Each MAS will only handle 2 port card so if you are using T-1 QSIG that is a total of 46 ports per MAS.(If you are using Avaya Servers)

Then you have the question of N+1 so that if one goes off line or you need to load patched you will have at least one other MAS to take calls

Who came up with the current design ?

The pros and cons really depend on what you are ultimately looking for as the end result.

What system are you using now. Have you done a pilot test on MM with Exchange? If you use 2 systems you may also lose some features that you rely on today.

If you need more input let me know. All we do is messaging and related products.

Hope the information below helps make it clearer

The 2000 users are across multiple sites.
The 2 email clusters are on 2 different sites with only 1 on the same sites as one of the MAS servers.

As we are looking at using Avaya servers with 30 E1 channels on each server we would not have a problem.

N+!, We would like to have 2 MAS servers in 2 different Data centres with a LIVE – LIVE situation Load balanced.

We are using Audix on S8700 / as for the pilot it would be in the next step after we have full understanding

So that you have full understanding we requested the following
2000 users on multiply sites with MAS servers at the main Telephone incoming points (2 data centres), with a Live – Live set up for MAS servers(Load balanced), in case of outage.

We have one supplier telling us we only need 2 servers (1 in each data centre) but the other is telling us that we need a MAS server for each exchange server, so we would need 4 servers, this would prove to be a problem as 1 of the clusters is not on a telephone site (Except IP Phones)

Would welcome any feed back you have.
