I AM USING SERVER-2000 WITH VERITAS VER 9.0 TO BACK UP INCREMENTAL BUT BEFORE I DO THAT I WONDER IF ANYONE KNOWS HOW TO LABEL A NEW TAPE ON VERITAS SO THAT IT IS RIGHT PROTECTED.
Labeling a tape does not make it write protected. Labeling a tape on creates a name for the tape, so that it can be easily identified. Why would you want to write protect a tape? You won't be able to add any more information to it. If you really want to make it unwrittable, there is slider on the tape that you can move to the 'locked' position. That makes it so the tape cannot be written to.
On the navigation bar select 'Devices' ----> click 'stand alone drives' (or robotic if media in a library) ------> select drive or slot of the tape you want to label ----> under 'Media Tasks' on the Task Pane select 'Label Media'
Click ok to the warning box that comes up and then enter the label name you want.
Then click ok then select your choice from the options shown to you and then select Run Now.
Remember though when you label a tape then all data on it isn't recovarable.
If you want the data to be recovarable then Rename the tape rather than relabel it.
