I started taking comp tia A+, hardware test, then software. After passing both then studied one month for Network +. Taking these two first paved the way for my mcp. I studied for the 210,215,216,218,219,220,226. Then I started taking the tests. I mainly focused on 210,215,216 and then tested. The frst two were no problem. Failed 216 twice. Went on and took 218 and obtained mcsa 2000. The toughest was the security tests but eventually(4 months) got my mcse. Then cca citrix(easy) and sonic wall cert(easy)

I recommend Transcender over most of the other training materials. It prepares you for the real tests. However I found myself memorizing situations as opposed to experiencing them and truly learning. Keep in mind I had no experience in the industry prior so this path worked well for me. Experienced techies can probably get it done in 6 months.

Hope this helps

This does work, just remember that MS is great for asking trick questions. Good luck to all, we're going to need it.

Tim,

I went back through my books; but the lab exercises seem pretty basic...

I think if you have a chance to just go through all the menus at least one time, you'll feel better... When you're reading, follow along with your test PC and see what the screens look like...

It worked for me... but I've been doing IT for so long it's stuck under my fingernails...

Setnaffa is an MCP-W2K (working on MCSE-W2K) with a few other certs, too...

Tim and Setnaffa:

If you have friends in a community college, you might find some lab examples that are more challenging.

I tried to simulate what the SAs at work say they do... but on a much less grand scale... I only have the three PCs...

Now, I will say that the MS books do generally have good labs, and I've recently seen some for as low as $0.99 in some of the used and surplus bookstores around Dallas...

Maybe a short-term subscription to some onlione library like books24x7.com would be useful?

VMWare and the eval copies of the software work well for a test lab. With just a couple machines you can create some impressive environments. I normally model in VMware for the migration work I do.
