How fit subform inside another form ?

I have a form containing a tab control. Inside one tab is a subform. I'm having a devil of a time getting the subform to fit nicely without scroll bars appearing.

One further catch - my subform has a header, detail and footer and I need all to be fully visible with no gaps between them. I sometimes get large gaps between the bottom of the detail and the footer.

None of this is covered in any Access book I have and MS Access help is useless on this subject.

Can anyone advise?

Take a look at the CanGrow and CanShrink properties of your subform.

I agree with ya when you say there isn't much on it. But believe me, its not necessary to know, as alot of things become self evident as you design more and more forms.

Access does a good job in determining when to add a scroll bar. Actually its something you need to allow for when designing in enough width.

Without going into unecessary detail, here's the best you can do:

When you have done the above, you have reached your design limit. Unfortunately, a verticle scroll bar will be included, as more often than not, you can't display enough records without it.

You may also take a look at the properties of yourSubForm.Section(acDetail)

PHV . . . . an [blue]Honor![/blue] to have you aboard!

[blue]CanGrow[/blue] and [blue]CanShrink[/blue] properties are exclusive for printing and more suitable for reports. They are inactive in [blue]Form View![/blue] . . . . Active in [blue]Print Preview & Print[/blue]

Also, the properties of a Subform have little to do, with the maximum design area of a Form/subForm.

Your design area is your design area . . . . . you can't go outside of it!

Can we play with the .Section(acDetail).Height property ?

Yes you can. But you'll find its limited as far as displaying Headers/Footers along with it is concerned. Even without, your design maximum is always staring at you!

Its very simple, and as I said before:

So . . . yeah . . . you can do it! . . . . but you gotta stay within that design window! How many times have you adjusted just for that, yourself!
