I don't know what to do at this point. I'm looking for an antivirus service that doesn't have a subscription attached to it (or a cheap on at most). I've heard that you don't have to renew yearly for corporate edition to get virus definitions, but I've never investigated the licensing side of corporate edition. And it looks like you have to renew every year for one reason or another.

What does renewing give you? And what are the disavantages of not renewing a corporate license? I guess I just want to know how licensing works and what information I've heard is only myth. I also want to hear it from someone who's not trying to sell something, because if I call a sales person about it, they'll just tell me that I HAVE to renew every year and they'll STAB me through the heart if I DON'T renew.

Sorry I cant really shed any light on the licensing of SAVCE because my client (the army) bought it. What I can tell u if it makes u feel any better is the monitoring and configuring SAVCE is one of my primary jobs and I love alot of its capabilites. You can pull threat or virus histories from one machine or all of the machines at one. Schedule scans that users can not kill, unless highly pc educated, view all of your servers and clients from on central location. I know that it may kinda sound like a sales pitch but I am really just trying to give u an opinion of someone who is solely responsibile for monitoring antivirus signatures and threat histories for about 10K machines that it is a good product.

ps -> I am sure that it is expensive though

You have a couple of options regarding licensing. If you purchase a small business pack you will have to purchase corp licensing every year to get definition updates. However, if you purchase Enterprise (Same product, different package) you do not have to purchase licensing for definitions.

However, you will still need to pay a yearly fee to get technical support and upgrades to new versions. Yes, if you have a support contract you do not have to pay for new versions of the product.

I am not sure about the numbers regarding pricing or the amount of clients you need to get an Enterprise contract. You will need to contact a sales rep for that.

Also, you have a choice of purchasing different levels of support. Gold, Platinum, or Platinum Premium. The pricing structure is very competative and worth looking into.
