I am very new to the definity's so please be patient. We have a small definity unit at a remote site with a universal coupler, which I assume is used to do overhead paging. Does anyone know how this process works? The phones have a call appearance of paging and when they depress the button it should allow you to speak your announcement. Does it dial a number and then gets access to a paging trunk? All help is welcome.

If you use an Auxillary trunk pack you would type in the command "Change paging loudspeaker" It would look similar to this.

PAGING PORT ASSIGNMENTS
Voice Paging Code Calling
Zone Port TAC COR TN TAC COR TN Location:
1: 1 1 PAGING
2: 1 1 PAGING
3: 1 1 PAGING
4: 1 1 PAGING
5: 1 1 PAGING
6: 1 1 PAGING
7: 1 1 PAGING
8: 1 1 PAGING
9: 1 1 PAGING
ALL: 1 1

You would assign a port from the Aux pack then assign a TAC code (Trunk access code). This TAC code is what would be dialed by the end users (or put as a speed dial on the sets). Hope that helps.

The button their phone is probably a system abbreviated-dial entry that sends the paging access code when pressed. The paging amplifier is connected to a Universal Coupler that is cross connected to the Auxilary Trunk pack (TN763).
