How does one make an icon? 1

I've never known...

How do I create an icon? Is it something simple, like saving a bitmap picture as type " .ico " ?

In order to create an icon you need an icon editor, like Bitmap to Icon Maker or a similar program, which allows you to convert a .bmp to a .ico file. Just renaming the extension, from bmp to ico won't work.

Renaming the extension from .bmp to .ico works. However it doesn't reduce the file size.
