When 123-456-7800 been dialed, how does PBX route it to 7800 accordingly?
(Since no IDC been configured)
Thanks,

you do not need a idc table unless you are modifying a incoming digits on a pri.

How does it know how to go to 7800? The central office generally sends you the last 4 digits of a did number, you have that number programmed on a set it rings. not programmed it goes to the attendant.

on a pri they can send you as many as 10 digits. you translate the numbers of digits by the length of ldn0. You put a 4 digit ldn in and it only looks at the last 4 digits, you put a 5 digit ldn in and it only looks at the last 5 digits and so forth.

DID is essentially a smart TIE line from the central office. When the CO recognizes a call to a DID customer, it points the caller to the trunk group and inserts (for example) the last 4 digits as if it was simply dialing an extension. that's how I think of it.

best way i have found to teach this is very simple.. the switch treats did/tie trunks as if they were analog stations..

idc can be used to change the did.. i dial xxx 7800 and you want your ext to be 1800..

at install both parties agreed that your box would accept 4 digits, tone.. your cdn is 4 digits..
