How do your insert text into an image?

Using PSP v9.1, I followed the "Help" file directions to add text to an image. I clicked "Apply" at the end of the steps as instructed, even "flattened" the work; but the text fails to stay. Until somebody with an adequate command of English and an IQ above 61 can share the missing step(s)in the near useless PSP "Help" files, I must use MS-Paint to add text to photos. I'd be grateful for any assistance.

With the image in question opened, select the text tool.

With it opened move to the top menu bar. Just under the File menu there is an option where you can choose how to add the text, either as a Vector, as a selection or as a Float. Select Vector.

Now type whatever you want into the text box and click apply.

now from the layer palette expand the vector layer, and right click on the text layer. Select Properties. Now you can change the border and fill type of the text. Choose the colors and width. and click o.k.

And there you go text in an image.

Thank you for your kind response. I don't mean to appear ungrateful; but you left out a key step, which left me frustrated. But I managed to discover by trial an error how to bring up the text/vector layer palette (no thanks to PSP's "Help" files that tell you WHAT to do and not HOW). I still can't save text in an image. Either you missed other steps (experts do this routinely, assuming the novice knows almost as much they do) or my version of PSP (9.01) requires a four-year college degree to use. Below are the steps I used that fail.

1. Open the image and select text tool "[A]".
2. In "Create as" field, select "Vector" as method of
adding text (see the option just under "File" in
upper menu).
3. Click in the image window and choose direction,
font, size, etc. then click "Apply."
4. Right-click on text icon "[A]", select "Palettes"
then "Layers." In the right lower corner of window
will appear the vector layers palette.
5. Expand (right-click on [+]) "Vector 1."
6. Right-click on text layer ("A Imagery") and select
"Properties."
7. Click in "Stroke" and "Fill" boxes to choose the
text outline and fill colors, then adjust stroke
width, etc.
8. Click "OK" to add the text to image.
9. Drag and drop the text to desired location in the
image.

If you or anybody else will afford me the missing step(s), I'd be very grateful. Thanks for being patient with this beginner.

Sorry about the Layer palette, But i though it was there by default.

As for any additional steps, I'm not sure what you mean?

If I do exactly that, I can save the image with the text on it.

I'm not sure what you are experiencing?

Once you can actually see the text on the image, just save the image.
Or you can save it in another format if you choose Save As.

Well, you are correct. The steps worked. My confusion was that the dotted border lines around the text, the ones on which you can click on and drag to modify the size of the text, do not disappear after clicking on "OK," which is customary in every graphics program I have ever used. I ignored the dotted border lines and saved the image at which time I got the following message:

"Because of the limitations of the specified file format (and possibly the save options you've selected), the saved file will be limited to a merged image. Would you like to continue?"

After fiddling with the save options, I managed to figure out the steps that do not bring up the message above: I clicked on Save as > Options > chose Lossless encoding > Optimizer > and used the wizard to finish.

Adding simple text to an image is not one of PSP's strengths, considering how easily MS Paint does it. And having to make the font tiny in order to access the center of the text box is what I expect in crapware. You can only drag the text from the center of the text box, which may run outside the image if the font is larger than 12-14 pt. So I place the text in the center of the image first then move and enlarge the text afterwards. Good grief...what a labor! Unfortunately MS Paint limits your image to 96 dpi, so I must get used to the myriad of steps required by PSP. Still, I guess it's a small price to pay for the powerful features in PSP, especially the lossless jpeg save. It's a powerful editor that deserves a better manual.
