If you go to View / Tab Order, a window will pop up which will allow you to look at the tab order of the controls on the form, including the subform. After you adjust the tab order the way you want it, then go to the individual controls and make sure their Tab Stop property is set to yes. Then do the same for the subform.
All I have ever needed to do is to set the subform as the last tab item of the main form's controls. Access has always automatically gone from the main form to the subform if I do that. So I am not sure what is happening if it isn't working for you.
