hi all,

i'd like to make a solaris directory mountable by Windows users?

how do i create the share in Solaris?

thanks!

is that the only way to do it?

can it be done without installing thrid party sotware?

use the share command.

1. make sure nfs server is running on the server you have the share directory.

2. Mount the direcory.

3. Share the directory using the share command.

4. You would have to make an entry in /etc/dfs/dfstab file before you can share it.

oops.. didn't see the Windows part.

Use Samba as suggested by Coffee.

Well, if this going to be accessed by many different MS computers then yes. However, if it is only one machine that needs access you might want to look into MS Services for UNIX on that PC. Microsoft has made it free for download now:

It replaces a lot of services that would be ran on UNIX servers (NFS, NIS, etc...) but, you can use it to browse NFS shares. INMHO I would just stick with Samba though it is easy and straight forward to get up and running.
