Hello,

Using ASA, how do you set it up so that you can get email alerts when there are errors or outages?

I'm running a G3r v. 11, ASA 2.0.12

You need to be using ASA Version 3 to be able to do e-mail, as I understand it. I have version 3 on a G3si v11.3 and I use the e-mail alerts to notify me of problems. It is really great to have it in place.

There is SMTP tab in the 'option' field. So does that mean I can set up email alerting?

First you have to setup SMTP settings in your ASA.
Tools->Options->SMTP
If you have setup SMTP correctly go to "Fault & Performance"->"Monitor Alarms". On the second page check option "Report alarms and errors in e-mail". Enter your e-mail address as written bellow.
On the next page schedule your alarm monitor.
That's all.

Of course you have to setup the automatic logon option in your Voice System Properties.

and ASA has to be continually running for you to get emails.

Its also best to get a dedicated machine that you can keep up all the time. You should also create a login on your CM for only this and restict the permissions. Keep in mind if you have a text pager or BB then you can send e-mails to it.

Ok I managed to get it working to send it to my Outlook email address.

However, when I added my pager address it does not work.

I also noticed that if I alter the name in the From: field in SMTP tab to something else, it does not work also.
