I'm just about to set up a new desktop image for my clients. We want to use Outlook as the mail client rather than Outlook Express.

Does anyone know a way of installing IE without installing Outlook Express in the same breath? I'm sick and tired of the Outlook Express icon constantly appearing on users desktops/ quicklaunch toolbars and confusing them.

Cheers

which OS are you running? Outlook Express come defaulted on all windows systems. Basically, if you throw outlook express, you throw windows. Windows itself will not function correctly if you get rid of it. My suggestion, is move all its components and icons to a separate folder, and move it somewhere in the deep cobwebs of your computer. Outta sight, outta mind. Just DONT delete them.
s-) I came, I saw, I connected at 48.8...

Cheers neonyak

I'm going to set up using Windows 2000 SP2 and IE5.5 SP2. I think IEAK might have a way of removing Outlook Express but I haven't looked into it that deeply...

To remove Outlook Express shortcuts for all future profiles on an existing installation of Windows 2000, use Registry Editor to view and then delete the following registry key:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Active Setup\Installed Components\{44BBA840-CC51-11CF-AAFA-00AA00B6015C}\Stubpath

My experience is that you cannot remove OE, as such (i.e. make it go away completely). On Win95/98 there is the option to remove it in "Add/Remove Programs" but parts of it appear to be common to Outlook 2000, so removing it will cripple Outlook. If you aren't using Outlook then you can remove OE, in the normal way.

Since you say you are using Outlook, that isn't an option, so I guess you just have to hide the icons and shortcuts, as I have had to...

Outlook 98 doesn't share components with OE, so you CAN remove OE on a computer where you are using OL98. But I don't imagine that helps much.

mcleoa has it sussed. I'm rolling out machines without a hint of Outlook Express smearing their desktops... All I've got to do is workout the same thing for Media Player...

You can remove Outlook Express but it will stop Outlook and Internet Explorer from functioning correctly..

Yep... just discovered that... When a new user logs on and loads Outlook 2002 a book jumps up and complains the Outlook Express isn't installed... Thank God for Beta testing...

Not to mention a big "Thanks Bill" - Now, all I desire is to get rid of that Outlook Express Icon in the QuickLaunch Bar so my users don't feel the urge to try and install Outlook Express themselves...
