During my latest snafu, sound card upgrade,Ive had all sorts of problems but I think I have finally got to the root of them all.If I start in safe mode device manager shows 4 devices that dont show up in regular mode. These devices are associated with my old sound card which I thought I unistalled, when I try to delete these items it wont let me,it says they are part of a parent device. How do I say "SCREW YOU" to device manager and do what I want?By the way none of these devices are the "parent",I even reinstalled the old card so I could delete the main mamma thinking that might do it,no such luck, thats how I ended up with 4 devices I cant get rid of instead of the original 2!You guys have helped me out of much deeper holes than this,so dont be shy.

In these cases the parent will probably be hiding under another catagory. I've found them in 2 or 3 other places at various times. Ed Fair

Is it by chance ACPI IRQ Holder for PCI IRQ Steering?

Go to Start>Run, and type hwinfo /ui. Look over the resulting file for red text. This indicates proble devices.

Go to Start>Run, and type msinfo32 and look over the Hardware section for problems. Click the History radio button to show what changes have been made.

Every time you use the Add Hardware wizard, entries are made in the registry. The keys look like this 0001, 0002, etc. Sometimes they are not removed correctly.
