How do you know what EDI standardization you should use without spending the rest of your life reading about EDI?

Thanks,
Harold

Ask your trading partners what they use.

Also find out what the standards are for your industry. Some trading partners support more than one standard so you will want to choose a standard that is most common for your industry if you can. I've supported two different standards (UCS and X.12) as well as multiple versions. If you have to develop the maps the rule is: the less the better. Each standard is like a different language whereas each version is more like a slight variation in dialect. Good luck
