I'm looking for some pros/cons regarding terminating T1s directly to the fax machine (rightfax/halafax) versus the PBX.

We lose some control and reporting for one if we go directly to the fax servers however I won't have to worry about utilizing ports on the switch with TFNS pointing to DNIS or VDNS.

Insight and thoughts are appreciated.
(We get about 1200 faxes a day and will be rolling out a program that could quickly grow to 2000+ in 6 months and beyond that who knows the traffic.)

you set the fax server trunk group to report incoming calls to the CDR, this way you can know what fax number was dialed when it hit the T

The T1 does not terminate to the PBX at all. It goes directly to the faxserver.

I don't mind this as long as they don't look to the telphone system for any reporting...or me for any support!
